Variety of Xerox

Xerox has inkjet and laser printers much like most major manufacturers on the market including HP and Canon. However, there are a few things that set Xerox apart from the others. The variety in new and old printers is so wide-spread that it is difficult for other companies to compete with this power house. They broke the mold when they introduced solid ink printers.

This kind of printer works with sticks of ink that are much like crayons. They fit perfectly into the four slots, which are all different shapes so there is no confusion. The printer than heats the ink, melting it down to a liquid which is how it is dispersed onto the pages. Unlike other kinds of printers, solid ink units do not have cartridges. So, when ink the computer gives a notice that the ink is low, it means every bit of it has been melted away and used for printing.

Replacement ink sticks used to be expensive when Xerox was still manufacturing these innovative machines, but now replacements can be found for a fairly affordable price. Xerox has moved on from the ink stick idea because of costs and environment, not to mention the idea just never caught on like inkjets did for IBM and lasers did for HP. However, Xerox has excelled making both of those types of printers too.

Most homes do not have Xerox products because they seem to be designed more for larger volume operations. Xerox printers seem to fit into office environments well. To do maintenance on a Xerox, repair people have to have special certification due to the complex and sophisticated nature of these devices. When you think of Xerox, you may tend to think about digital cameras, however, printers is where this company left its mark on the world, and continues to.
